Red Mist 28 – ‘Battle for theTermoli line’

Location: The beaches of Anzio, Italy

Its 1984 and world war three rages across the globs.  So far no nuclear weapons have been deployed but a number of nerve agent chemical weapons have been and to deadly affect.  The Communist might has grown and with the new treaty between the Communist parties of the USSR and China the red army has been given it’s desperately need bolster from the East.  Across most of Europe, communist parties have rises up and either challenged the lawful democratic government or take up arms and begun their own coups.  One such country is Italy.  A large number of German DDR and USSR VDV have moved across the Adriatic sea from Yugoslavia and been aiding the Italian Communist party, the Partito Comunista Italiano, or PCI to seize control of Rome from the Christian Democracy party, whose near loss of the 1983 elections gave the PCI its foothold and just under majority.

Operation Yellow Bear is in full deployment and thousands of Nato troops are being landed across the Italian paninsular.  In responce Warpact have pulled a number of regiments from other engagements to meet the landing force.  Now a line has been drawn by the defending response of the Soviet Mobilisation. The command and control of the south region of Italy was commanded by the East German DDR element, but is now in direct command of the Soviet overall commander in Rome with the DDR command being blamed for the surprise landing by Nato.

Nato’s 1st Army is to push hard towards Rome and meet up with a massive Airborne Elements that have already captured much of the City.

3rdArmy is making its way from Greece and is tasked with the capture of Bari and the stabilisation of Southern Italy.

2ndArmy, which was responsible for the landings at Paddington Beach, are to push out and secure the town of Termoli, which holds the Southern Warpac seat of command.  A number of small military Warpac airfields have been constructed to the towns North West and many defences have been set in their support.  The purpose of these airfields has not been established at this time as no warehousing has been constructed.

Warpac command has responded to the initial surprise landing with incredible flexibility and has managed to reform their scattered units to form a single army to engage Nato’s 1stadvance.  A secondary Army, not quite as prepared has been tasked with cutting of any Nato elements attempting to divide the North and South Italian regions.  The Battle for the Termoli line has begun.
