Yeah i've got a copy of that. Some of the photos are pretty good, the illustrated pics are pretty dire.

That will be because the drawings done from a series of very famous pics of that unit in which they are training and dont have mags in, i imagine going by the standards of the rest of the drawings that the artist commisioned was told 'paint that photo' rather than having any knowledge of the unit painted :)

some of the choices in that book are downright odd..  like the royal horse artillarly in cermonial dress!

Yeah combat and survival was always a bit comedy.

they have a *very* walty clientele base.

I used to love articles on their cover like 'what mortar?  we test fire three comptetitoes'...  yeah cos like you're ever going to a) be in a situation where you need to shop around for mortars or B) have a much of a 'free market' choice when you are :)

Great fun mag if you're either 13 or a latent psychopath :)

BTW i say that as someone involved in that branch of publishing and as the former editor of a very similar magazine....

Reading the article i would imagine it was published around 1990?   It's got a lot of the common myths and misconceptions in it...  the big one being the SPTs   these never existed and were actually warsaw pact propaganda.  Nice idea though.
