January 1968

Location: The Demarcation Line, Vinhlinh.

In August 1964 the first exchange of fire between the US and the North Vietnamese took place in the Tonkin Gulf with zero casualties on the US but number of North Vietnamese Navy operating torpedo boats were hit.  This was the first probing of the US military whilst the CIA continued to gather intelligence and make analysis of the civil conflict, which at this point was mainly in the Southern regions across the Demarcation line.  At this time ARVN training camps were in full operation.

On January 30 1968 began the massive Tet Offensive from the North, millions of NVA propelled themselves across the demarcation line and began the largest offensive of the war.  These mixed units of PAVN and Vietcong were well organised and deadly.

Our story follows the sudden and surprise attack felt by many ‘Safe’ US controlled bases along the Demarcation line and beyond the DMZ.  At Camp William, a US RnR station which was previously an ARVN training camp is about to have their day ruined.

The 33rdhave been unleashed upon Vinhlinh.

Red Mist 29 – ‘Casino’ Day 6.

Location: Inland Italy along the E45 Road to Termoli. Rural area outside of Casino.

Its 1984 and world war three rages across the globe. So far no nuclear weapons have been deployed but a number of nerve agent chemical weapons have been and to deadly affect. The Communist might has grown and with the new treaty between the Communist parties of the USSR and China the red army has been given it’s desperately need bolster from the East. Across most of Europe, communist parties have rises up and either challenged the lawful democratic government or take up arms and begun their own coups. One such country is Italy. A large number of German DDR and USSR VDV have moved across the Adriatic sea from Yugoslavia and been aiding the Italian Communist party, the Partito Comunista Italiano, or PCI to seize control of Rome from the Christian Democracy party, whose near loss of the 1983 elections gave the PCI its foothold and just under majority.

Operation Yellow Bear is in full deployment and thousands of Nato troops have landed across the Italian peninsular and are in full engagement with the Red Machine of Warpac.

3rd Army Group, codename ‘Boot’ has found far more resistance than expected with a huge DDR presence as well as a militia of communist supporters including the Police and security forces. General Enrico Longo, son of the communists Luigi Longo PCI leader has managed to persuade a number of other military personnel to help fight off this ‘Invasion against their sovereignty’.

Nato’s 1st Army group, code name ‘Hat’ has pushed towards Rome and consolidated with the massive Airborne Elements that have already captured much of the City. The battle for Rome has begun with street to street fighting, Warpac reinforcements have stumped the NATO advance and the battle could swing either way.

2nd Army group, code name ‘Train’, has pushed hard and fast along the highway, but a determined mixed Warpac force has created a number of pocket defences along the rural areas of the roadway near Casino and need to be cleared. Although the main force of ‘Front’ are only a day away from the airfields of Termoli, ‘Rear’ are still struggling to get supplies in support, with nearly 60% of the needed munitions being destroyed or abandoned in damaged vehicles.

Thanks to an Intel haul after a successful action on a Warpac command bunker and other collated intelligence gathered over the last 2 days, NATO have a good idea of where the ‘Pocket Defences’ are and have sent infantry in to clear them. However, due to supply chain being so badly disrupted, the NATO force will go into this with half their ammo quota (150 rnds) until they can get a loaded supply truck to their CnC depot.

This battle will see a more conventional action, company against company.
