A while back Evo, Nige and I decided to form a light hearted offshoot of PBI called the 'Sinister Ducks' based around the film 'The Wild Geese' (with the SD name coming from an Alan Moore and Bauhaus song).

The theme is simple....

It's 1969 were British mercs in darkest afica... kit should be *mainly* pre 1970s brit kit with the odd bit of WWII kit and also elements of soviet kit (like aks etc)

Just like the film we're always after new reruits... the pays lousy the conditions are terrible and the leaderships awful... Do you have what it takes to be a Sinister Duck?

Here's a sample loadout i threw together a few months back.

Im looking to run a wild geese this year so getting a group together is a bloody fine idea.
Friday night. Meet at a pub to discuss 'the plan'
Sat. Complete objectives
Sun. Escape

How's that sound

i remember having this chat with you Josh, and i think having a team would be wicked awesome cool if id be allowed in!

I'll admit my post war history is almost non-existant (being a ww2 enthusiast and an academic medievalist is enough!) so maybe someone could say if any of this is ok for a rough look

KD shirt
ww2 denims
'58 webbing
DMS boots
Maroon beret
SLR

being my size, getting period camo smocks or jackets is almost impossible, so shirt sleeves is probably better :)

On this thread.

The idea is to essentially be fairly 'mish mash' with regard to kit as long as its wwII to 1970...

We were ging to go for black berets with a silver flying goose/duck on it!

Something like this...

The other pre equisite is totally haming it up 70s war film style in game!

Yep, I'm totally up for this, would love an African mercenary game!

I've already spoken to Gadge about this at length and have all the kit, including my massively battered up AK, 60's pattern DPM smock and '58 pattern webbing. I think i did actually buy a 'ducks' badge, too.

I had the following idea....

It's being written up at the mo but:

It's 1970, a small African nation has recentl been granted independance from Britain, for years it has been equipped and advised by the UK. One year into independance a communist movement rises up and seizes trhe capital and much of the surrounding country. The communist guerillas appear to be aided by the Oktober Guard, a 'mercenary' unit of distinctly Russian appearance.

Unbable to intervene directly the British Government send in mercenary forces including the notorious 'Sinister Ducks'.

So the way I see it you could have several factions.

The National Guard
The Communist Forces
Pro Communist Mercs
'Free World' mercs

and lastly unalligned mercs.

That way you can have an 'African Bush War' where both sides could potentially be composed entirely of white mercs?

Just an idea... there is more depth to it than that in my notes, including a 'bounty' sytem.

The battles coudl be played for 'fees' and in addition each player has there own worth to a faction if captured 'alive or dead'.

Oh yes, definitely up for this, I'll have my OD's, 68 para smock with Alice,58 and 44 webbing mix with home made FAL/SLR mag bandoleer. The berret with duck looks like a fantasic idea aswell. Or I could use my sten or the RPK, I'm all excited now, a new theme/loadout which I won't need to spend a lot on. My wife will like that.

I was just on the phone to Josh and we were thinking that just like the 'Wild Geese' it might be cool for the Communist uprising to have East German advisors?

I've been digging through my miscellaneous box of little used kit and have come up with the following that is roughly suitable. This is all stuff that I'd like to make more use of:

Headgear: Blue (RAF) Beret, Brit Mountain cap or Belgian M1 helmet.

Shirt: Khaki French M47 shirt or Green Brit GS shirt (with epilettes removed)

Tunic: Green French M47 Tunic or Brit windproof smock (camo painted tan version- trying remove most of the paint)

Trousers: Not got much here- I have my altered German tropical trousers or some modern cotton khaki 'combats'.

Boots: Brit BCH or French 'foreign legion' Bata/tropical boots.

Webbing: 58 Pattern, Chicom AK chest rig or Serbian ALICE type (but no pouches).

Weapon: Probably AKM or M14. PpSh, MP44 or K98 are also possibilities.

If I go for the M1 pot, M47 shirt& tunic, DAK trousers, bata boots and 58P with M14 then I could pass for a French/Belgian ex colonial or Legion merc. If I got for BCH, Chicom and AKM instead that could work for a 'Cuban' adviser or communist fighter. If I want something more British then the windproof, beret or cap, BCH (maybe with puttees or anklets to cover the high leg) and 58P could work. Lots of possibilites. I love making loadouts from random kit. B)
