Announcement: IMPORTANT!!! - Forum change imminent!!!
Posted by GunmanAirsoft
Just a heads up to everybody, we are currently moving all of our various websites to a new hosting provider.
We have been meaning to update the forums for a long time, but it's been waaaaaaay down a long list of things that need doing. With the switch to a new host, we will be creating a new forum format and ditching these forums entirely.
There are several reasons for this, least of all being that the current forum software is horribly out of date and full of security holes, but a big part of it is that in the last 10 years the use of traditional forums as we currently have has declined to almost nothing (with most people using Facebook now) and almost all of the information which is contained within these forums is duplicated on Facebook and our website.
We appreciate that there are many of you who still prefer to use tools like these forums and who do not wish to use Facebook - I have to, because I manage our social network presence, but I have not used Facebook personally for years, and would not do so were I not required to for work, so I get it.
As a result, we have decided not to completely do away with forums altogether, but we will be starting from scratch and putting only the bare minimum on here. The web address will remain the same. If you have any PMs that you really want to keep, then make copies of them in the next couple of days as everything will be getting wiped.
Once these forums disappear, there may be a few days to a week or so while we build the new ones - Josh is not a techie and I have a million things to do at once. Apologies for any inconvenience while we make the change. You will need to re-register when the new ones are in place as we will not be keeping anything from the old database for technical and security reasons.
We hope that the new system will meet all of your needs and will be simpler to use. In the meantime, for those of you without Facebook, please check our main website at http://www.gunmanairsoft.co.uk for basic info and all of the upcoming events (including open days and themed FilmSim weekends), or you can contact us by email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by old school phone at 07711 774461 for Doug, 07711 774401 for Josh.
Thanks guys, see you in the new forums.
